RPG Campaigns - GM

Stargate: NID

2004-2005, d20 Modern

This was my first campaign, and my first extended RPG experience, period. I've been a fan of Stargate: SG-1 for some time, and when I discovered roleplaying games, I realized that the episode structure of a weekly, semi-serialized TV show fit a campaign perfectly. I could create short, one-off adventures each week that could tie together with little difficulty. When we started off, I gave my players the choice to play as either SGC soldiers (good guys) or NID operatives (bad guys). As the title tells you, they chose to be bad guys. I was still learning the ropes in this campaign, and they will tell you that there were some rather shakey early sessions while I was figuring out how all the rules worked, but it definitely picked up, and my players continually found new and interesting ways to surprise me. I found that the best strategy was to just embrace the surprise and try to harness it to my own ends.

2008-2009, D&D 4th Edition

This was my first campaign in 4th Edition D&D. I split GM duties with my friend, Isaac. We began with the first 4th Edition adventure, Keep on the Shadowfell and then built our world out from that. We followed it up with an expedition to the layer of a bunch of hobgoblin slavers, then an adventure at sea, followed by an expedition to a city of monsters. We then took our adventure to the outer planes for a confrontation with the Far Realm.
